Win Your Own Lotto

When people talk about enrichment, they are usually thinking of financial enrichment. (Show me the money!) But, we can enrich many other aspects of our lives too such as: spiritual, mental, physical, and social, as examples. Winning the multi-dollar lotto is not impossible, but are you spending your life waiting for your fortune to come to you? For those of you that feel powerless at work, you have more control over your destiny than you think you do.

Why don't you win you OWN Lotto?!? Yes, that's right. What is stopping you from winning big in your own life?

A friend of mine owns a PC Support service called Geeks 4 Rent http://www.geeks4rent.com/. What started out as a hobby for him a few years ago is now his full time business. This is a guy who knew what he wanted and devoted most of his time, money, and energy to creating his own PC Support business. As someone who has worked at a Helpdesk for five years, I know that very few people have more knowledge of computers than my friend who runs Geeks 4 Rent. He is working at his dream job and gets paid very well for it. He won his own Lotto!

You can win your won Lotto if you embrace the challenge and possibility of the future. Remember the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol?" Scrooge had no desire to change. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future convinced Scrooge to change by showing him where he had been, where he was, and where he'd end up if he continued to live his life the way he did. By the end of the story, Scrooge was a changed man because he learned to embrace the future rather than be afraid of it.

Yes. Change IS scary. The unknown is scary too. Too many of us live with regret and we hold on to past mistakes. Of course, there are some regrets that we cannot overcome. But we CAN react to present events and be proactive about avoiding tomorrow's misgivings. What do you want your future to bring? What do you want your life to look like? How will you win your own Lotto?

Dangers Posed By Smoking on Women's Health

Everybody is aware of the dangers of smoking. It is absolutely damaging to the human body. While carcinogens in cigarettes pose a hazard to everyone, women are three times as likely as men to get aggressive forms of lung cancer and more likely to develop it at an earlier age. Women are also more likely to die of lung cancer than breast cancer.

Quitting smoking is easier said than done. And women, it turns out, have an even harder time quitting than men. Stronger withdrawal symptoms may be attributed to hormones or the bigger nicotine dose absorbed by smaller female bodies. Regardless of women's age, the dangers of smoking contribute to infertility, anxiety, blindness, and osteoporosis. Pregnant women who smoke risk not only their health but their babies' as well. Second hand smoke affects the children and other people around mothers who smoke.

Smoking is a vice that almost always begins during adolescence. When teenagers finish from high school without ever smoking regularly, they probably never will. However, while boys and girls are equally likely to start smoking, the latter get the worse health complications. Young people may exhibit symptoms of addiction within a few days or weeks right after they started smoking.
While cigarette smoking was rare in women during the beginning of the 20th century, the tobacco industry realized the potential of women as a market for the expansion of the cigarette industry. In fact, tobacco companies launched the campaign slogan "Instead of a sweet, reach for a smoke" to encouraged women to smoke so as not to gain weight. This was followed by “You've come a long way, baby” as a tribute to the burgeoning women's liberation movement.
These marketing campaigns not only depicted women smokers as beautiful, independent and fun, but also sent subliminal messages that smoking helps women control their weight. Cigarette ads are banned in kids and teens magazines but billion of dollars are spent on t.v., billboards, and adult magazines which can easily be accessed by the youth.

Since 1987, lung cancer has surpassed breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. About 87% of all lung cancer cases in America is directly attributed to smoking. Smoking causes heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in the U.S. The dangers of smoking contribute to respiratory diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, as well as many kinds of cancer.
Women who smoke also harm their appearance as smoking speeds up the aging process and produce more facial wrinkles, gum disease, dental decay, and halitosis. Mental health is also affected due to depression and anxiety disorders. Women are more likely to be depressed than non-smokers, and that women with anxiety disorders are more likely to smoke.

Some women, however, are finding creative ways to break the habit for good. Engaging in activities where smoking wouldn't fit, such as exercising, biking, mountain-climbing, as well as turning to a non-smoking lifestyle that includes going to smoke-free places with your kids.
The dangers of smoking for women has increased attention and awareness from women's organizations, resulting in a number of projects that focus on supporting tobacco cessation efforts specifically for women.

Cleaning your hearing aids

Hearing aids which fit in the ear.

When removing your hearing aid before you go to bed you should carefully wipe down with a soft dry cloth or tissue. You should also spend some time inspecting the part of the hearing aid that fits into the ear canal as it is likely that a accumulation of ear wax may have occurred. If this is the case then you will have to remove the wax. When you purchased the hearing aids you should receive a cleaning tool which can be used to do this which usually takes the form of a wire pick or a brush or you could also use a toothbrush.

Hearing aids which fir behind the ear.

As with the above, the procedure is similar. However, the main difference being that the ear mould which fits into the ear which is usually made of Lucite or silicone which is non-electrical and therefore can be washed in mild soapy water. Before washing it is important to ensure the earpiece is disconnected from the behind the ear section to ensure the electrical part of the hearing aid does not get wet. Dry the ear piece correctly before using and also ensure that the tube is clear of water. Please note that the tube may need to be replaced after a period of time usually 3 to 6 months as the flexibility may be lost.

Things not to do…

1. Wash the hearing aid with solvents or alcohol as this may cause the materials from which the aid is made to break down. You can purchase special cleaning fluids designed to clean hearing aids.

2. Don’t let the electrical part of the hearing aid get wet. Avoid wearing the aid when showering of bathing.

3. Try not to drop the hearing aid, especially on a hard floor as this may cause the hearing aid to break.

2 Step Marketing

Do it Right.

I receive postcards all the time. The other day I received a postcard trying to sell me a copy machine. It had tiny, tiny lettering slathered all over the front and a large portion of the back of the card.

It was extremely hard to read, so hard in fact that I threw it away.

Several days later I received a postcard with 32 words on it telling me that I could get complete information on unrestricted long distance telephone service for 5.5 cents a minute with no additional monthly fee by calling the 800 number on the card.

I did call. I got the information, had my questions answered and ordered my long distance service changed.
The company who offered me the long distance service was using a time tested 2 step selling process:

Step 1. Generate a lead - Get me to call their 800 number.

Step 2. Provide the requested information - Provided to me on the phone by one of their sales representatives, who was able to answer my questions and make me feel confident that I could save quite a bit of money on my long distance bill and that the service would be as good or better.

What's So Good About 2 Steps?

It is much easier to create interest (a lead) than it is to get a person through an entire buying process (a sale).

You aren't getting the prospect or existing customer to part with any money just yet.

You can use postcards to inexpensively promote to your target prospects and customers and generate leads (inquiries about your products and services) to then be followed up on and converted to sales.

This 2 step process also helps you to create a list of people who were interested enough in what you offered to contact you.

You can then recontact the one's who you didn't complete a sale with when they first inquired, preferably until they do buy from you.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to get the information you will need to recontact the people who responded to your postcard offering.

Repetitive follow-ups with the people who contacted you will result in increased sales. Make it a company policy to follow up with those people who contacted you about your products and services.

The Most Effective Use of Postcards:

The purpose of your postcard's message is to generate a sufficient level of interest in the mind of your prospect to get him/her to contact you to ask you about your offer.

You are generating interest, not collecting their money (not yet anyway). That is what the 2 step marketing process is about. Generating interested prospects and customers who contact you for more information.

Your message needs 3 parts to be most effective:

1. A clear statement of the biggest benefit of your product or service (in the long distance example, it was cost savings).

2. A good reason for them to contact you NOW.

3. A simple, easy way for them to respond (an 800 number for example).

Your message should be short and to the point. Short messages on postcards produce more leads than long ones.

For example:

Call 800-555-1212 for Your Copy of Our Free Report:

What 99% of Business Owners Don't Know and Will Never Find Out About Using Postcards to Explode Their Profits

Offer ends 5-5-01 (Print a date 3 weeks from your mailing date to create some urgency)

Lots of people will respond to find out what they might not know. Don't forget, they responded, which is least some interest in the information you have created a curiosity about.

This method works and is sure to produce a large number of inquiries if sent to your proper market.

This 2 Step Marketing Process Works.

Use the tips you have read here to create your next postcard's message and see what happens.

You will generate a bunch of leads from people who are truly interested in your products and services.

Alcohol - Balancing Risks & Benefits

Humans have been drinking fermented beverages for over 10,000 years and yet, to this day, the debate about its merits and demerits still remains. Alcohol is both a tonic and a poison. There are many scientific studies showing the benefits of alcohol consumption, and at the same time, there are just as many that indicate its health hazards.

What Is Alcohol?

The active ingredient in alcoholic beverages is ethanol which affects the body in many different ways.

  • It directly influences the stomach, brain, heart, gallbladder, and liver.
  • It affects levels of cholesterol, triglycerides (fats), and insulin in the blood, as well as inflammation and blood clotting.
  • It also alters mood, concentration, and coordination.

Whether alcohol is a tonic or a poison depends mostly on the dose. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend those who do drink alcoholic beverages do so in moderation. Moderation means no more than one drink per day for women and two for men. A standard drink is 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits. The recommended amount is smaller for women than men because women are usually smaller in size and they have less of an enzyme that helps metabolize alcohol in the body.

Health Hazards Of Heavy Drinking

If all drinkers limit themselves to one drink a day, we probably would not need as many cardiologists, liver specialists, mental health professionals, and substance abuse counselors. However, not everyone who likes to drink can stop at just one. Heavy drinking is the major cause of preventable death in most countries. In the U.S., alcohol is implicated in about half of all fatal traffic accidents. It plays a role in one in three violent crime cases.

  • It contributes to depression, violence, and relationship issues.
  • It causes inflammation of the liver (alcoholic hepatitis) and leads to scarring of the liver (cirrhosis) which is potentially fatal.
  • It increases blood pressure and damages heart muscle (cardiomyopathy).
  • It is associated with various forms of cancer such as cancer of the mouth, throat, vocal cord, esophagus (tube that goes from mouth to stomach), breast, liver, colon, and rectum. The risk is multiplied for drinkers who also smoke tobacco.
  • It causes fetal alcohol syndrome in an unborn child, including impaired growth and nervous system development.

Who Shouldn't Drink Alcohol?

People with the following conditions shouldn't drink any alcohol; even small amounts could cause problems:

  • A history of hemorrhagic stroke
  • Liver disease
  • Pancreatic disease
  • Evidence of precancerous changes in the mouth, throat, vocal cord, and esophagus.
  • Family history of alcoholism
  • Pregnant

Alcohol also interacts with many common prescription and over-the-counter medications:

  • Antibiotics
  • Anticoagulants (drugs that stop blood from clotting)
  • Antidepressants
  • Antihistamines
  • Anti-seizure medications
  • Beta blockers (drugs for managing irregular heart beats, heart attack, and high blood pressure)
  • Diabetes medications
  • Pain relievers
  • Sleeping pills

Also, if you combine alcohol with aspirin, you face an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. If you use alcohol with acetaminophen, you increase your risk of liver damage.

Possible Benefits Of Moderation Drinking

We know for a fact that heavy drinking plays havoc on your health but many studies have shown that moderate alcohol consumption can in fact, reduce the risk of the following diseases:

  • Heart attack (clot in coronary artery)
  • Ischemic stroke (clot in artery leading to the brain)
  • Peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of blood vessels outside the heart and brain)
  • Sudden cardiac arrest (sudden loss of heart function, breathing, and consciousness)
  • Gallstones
  • Type 2 diabetes

In addition, some studies have contributed the benefits of certain components in red wine such as reseveratrol in reducing heart disease risk. Resveratrol has shown to increase HDL("good") cholesterol, prevents blood clots, and relaxes blood vessel walls.

Risks of Moderate Drinking

In spite of the above benefits, moderate drinking also carries some risks:

  • Alcohol is addictive, especially for people with a family history of alcoholism.
  • There is convincing evidence that alcohol increases risk of developing breast cancer. However, studies also show that adequate intake of folate (a B vitamin), at least 600 mg a day, appears to mitigate this increased risk. Folate helps build DNA and is essential for accurate cell division. Alcohol blocks the absorption of folate and hence, increases the risk of breast, colon, and other cancers.
  • Alcohol can disrupt sleep. Although alcohol has a sedative effect and help you fall asleep faster, it is metabolized rapidly in your body and it impairs your sleep during the second half of the night. You tend to have shallower sleep and awake more easily. Alcohol is also likely to worsen snoring and sleep apnea (a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep).

Should You Drink Or Shouldn't You Drink?

  • If you don't drink, there is no need to start. For a pregnant woman and her unborn child, a recovering alcoholic, a person with liver disease, and people taking medication that interact with alcohol, drinking offers little benefits and substantial risks. There are other risk-free ways to boost your heart health and lower your risk of diabetes, such as becoming more active, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating healthy fats and a variety of vegetables and fruits.
  • If you do drink, drink in moderation. There are no conclusive studies that indicate whether wine, beer, or spirits has more health benefits. So choose whatever you like. Moderation is the key - limit to no more than one drink per day for women and two for men. However, bear in mind that having 7 drinks on a Saturday night and then not drinking for the rest of the week is not the same as having one drink a day. Also, make sure you get at least 600 mg of folate a day.
  • If you are a woman, it is trickier to balance the benefit and risk. Every year 10 times more women die from heart disease (460,000) than breast cancer (41,000). Therefore, if you are a woman at risk for heart disease, it is possibly beneficial to have a daily drink in spite of the small increase in breast cancer risk. However, studies show that women are far more afraid of developing breast cancer than heart disease, something that must be taken into consideration.

Stop Smoking With Hypnosis Before It’s Too Late

Considered to be one of the primary causes of lung cancer, smoking is a bad habit that should be stopped at once. Smoking can also cause diseases like myocardial infarction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema. Even second-hand smoke is known to be hazardous to a person’s health. Because of the addictive nicotine content found in most cigarettes, smokers have a hard time quitting. If you are a smoker and really serious in stopping, here are some methods that you can explore.

Substitutes

Smokers claim that they experience withdrawal symptoms when they decide to stop smoking. To relieve them of these symptoms, they could use substitutes which contain nicotine such as nicotine gums or lozenges. This method is called nicotine replacement therapy and is very effective for people who want to stop smoking permanently.

Nicotine Patches

The most popular method of smoking cessation is the use of nicotine patches. As the term suggests, they are patches that contain nicotine and placed on the person’s body. The nicotine is supposed to be absorbed by the skin. Compared to gums and lozenges, nicotine patches last longer and is more effective in stopping the urge to smoke.

Medication

Some smokers prefer to remove nicotine from their body entirely. But instead of simply stopping, they use medications such as Zyban , Chantix or Wellbutrin. These drugs do not contain nicotine and acts by reducing cravings for nicotine as well as relieving withdrawal symptoms.

Support Groups

Aside from patches, gums or prescription drugs, people who are trying to quit smoking should join a support group. This could help them manage their withdrawal symptoms better and seek assistance when their cravings become too much to handle. In the United Kingdom, there are telephone “quit lines” which provide assistance and support.

Self-Help Books

There are also many available self-help books that smokers can read to help them stop smoking. These books are usually authored by individuals who have experienced quitting and were successful in doing so.

It is important to remember that you can stop smoking if you just make a conscious decision to do so. Although it may be tough especially if you have been a smoker for a long time, it would ultimately benefit your health as well as the health of the people around you. If you are serious in your goal to stop smoking, then make sure you stick to your smoking cessation program.
